Project objectives, content, results and impacts

The project develops a solid wood element concept that utilises side streams from the sawmill industry, recycled timber and damaged wood.

A solid wood element made from corresponding raw materials is not currently available in Finland or on the global market. Based on the results of preliminary marketing, there is strong interest in this product.

The objective of this specific project is to develop a solid wood element production line and production concept.

Company strategy and objectives

The company was established for this development work and the production that will follow. The company’s operating principle is ecological and supports sustainable development.

Measures

A facility must be rented for production, and the production line must be designed and manufactured. The necessary tools and accessories must be acquired for the production facilities and line so that production is efficient and fit for purpose. A production process will be created, starting from production planning and control as well as material procurement, all the way to the finished product. A production management system must be acquired for the operation of the production facility. Labour resources for production will be allocated according to the work stages.

Implementation

The production line and pilot site will be completed during the second year. During the production of the pilot site, the production system will be developed towards its final version. The long-term result is nationwide recognition, which will be achieved by the end of the second year.

Result

At the end of the project, a solid wood element concept will be completed. The concept is ecological, fault-tolerant and utilises side streams from the sawmill industry, recycled material and damaged wood. A marketing plan and sales organisation will be ready for marketing and sales, and the organisation will be expanded as the operations grow. The concept can be marketed throughout Finland, and there will also be readiness to expand deliveries to international markets. At the end of this specific project, the company will have completed premises and suitable production lines that can meet market needs.
